What We Do

Daycare Sponsorship

Our Kiwanis club supports a local Child Development Council daycare facility in several ways including sprucing up the facility and sponsoring events for the children. The kids have come to love the homemade blankets they receive at Christmas time and events such as the the holiday party and Easter egg hunt. Kiwanis members also volunteer to read to the children on a regular basis. Are you interested in getting involved? Contact us to learn more.

Breakfast With Santa

Breakfast With Santa has been a staple of the community for over 25 years! There is always a big crowd present to get a picture with Santa, have a nice breakfast, do some arts and crafts and see the beautifully decorated Santa Land. This is a major fundraiser to help us to do other local projects.

Duck Derby

The Duck Derby is a major fundraiser for the club and typically takes place on Labor Day Weekend. We normally drop over 1000 ducks into the Susquehanna River!

Invest in a Vest

The “Invest in a Vest” program raised funds to supply local first responders with rifle plated vests. The community responded enthusiastically to help the club meet its goals.

Kiwanis Scholarship

Our Kiwanis club sponsors two scholarships for Wyoming Area High School Key Club members that are planning to further their education.

Memorial Day Parade

Kiwanis and Key Club members work together to decorate a float and pass out candy to parade watchers along the route

Hometown Heroes Banners

The club sponsors a Hometown Heroes Banners program in the local communities of Wyoming, West Wyoming and Harding. The banner installation was made possible by the generous donation of equipment and time by Kuharchik Construction, Murawski Electric and Charles Barone along with the work of volunteers from our club. We could not have installed and removed the banners without the generosity of these gentlemen and their bucket trucks!

Service Leadership Programs

Our Kiwanis club is a long time supporter of the Key Club, Builders Club and K-Kids programs at local schools. These partnerships have resulted in the completion of many successful projects for both the “SLP” organizations as well as our own club. Check out our dedicated “Sponsored Youth” page for more detailed info and photos!

Movie Night in the Park

The club sponsors an outdoor movie night for the public during the summer months. The event is free of charge and water and popcorn are provides at no cost to the moviegoers.

Ronald McDonald House

The club contributes regularly to the Ronald McDonald house of Scranton to help them in their mission to support the families of children receiving medical treatment.

Dinner for the Homeless

Our club sponsors an annual meal for a group of homeless gentlemen when they spend time at a local church. Our “sponsored youth” are a big help in this project!

Roadside Cleanup

Trunk or Treat

Park Cleanup

Or club members come out every spring to clean up some parks in our community.

Blanket Making Project

Making blankets for the kids at our sponsored daycare is an annual tradition. The kids really appreciate receiving these comfy and colorful blankets at their Christmas party!
